When Detroit's newest mixed-use development, Studio One, is completed in June, it will include Radio Shack and Utrecht Art Supply, both expanding from nearby.
Formerly called South University Village, the project is a five-story building developed on the site of a former Vernors plant on Woodward Avenue between Canfield and Forest avenues. It will have 30,000 square feet of retail and 124 apartments.
Also filling retail space is a 40-employee Fifth Third Bank branch and lending office, which will move personnel from Southfield. Utrecht is expanding from 4863 Woodward Ave., Radio Shack from 4825 Woodward Ave.
Marcel Burgler, a principal with the project's developer, Grand Rapids-based Prime Development, still needs to lease about 40 percent of the retail space. He said a letter of intent has been signed by a coffee shop, and he has been in discussion with a restaurant.
Wayne State University is a partner in the development, building a 950-space parking structure.
